AbstractThis review gives a brief overview of the recent developments in the field of analysis of petroleum products in fire debris residues by different spectroscopic and chromatographic techniques for forensic purpose. The review covers different aspects of analysis such as the types of accelerants, substrates involved, isolation procedures, column and mobile phase used, and subsequent detection in tabular form. This paper covers detection of petroleum products such as petrol, kerosene and diesel in various types of samples recovered in arson cases.
