AbstractXerostomia can have a significant adverse effect upon oral health and quality of life. A variety of new therapies are continuously being developed and assessed, but in general the treatment of the underlying salivary gland disease remains difficult. It is important, however, that all patients with xerostomia are appropriately investigated to establish the underlying aetiology, and to receive professional oral health care.
